This is a cafeteria somewhere in Germany, one of these places where you get huge pieces of homemade cakes and all kinds of coffee and cocoa. I think it is in the northwest (Nordrhein Westfalen-NRW), where my friend on the picture stayed for some years.  We had decided to enjoy a bike ride to explore the small villages around the city and then we spotted this cosy looking place, left our vehicles outside and got trapped by some delicious cake aroma and the interior design... It was summer, around 2015.

Esto es una cafetería en alguna parte de Alemania, uno de esos sitios donde te sirven trozos gigantes de pasteles caseros y todo tipo de cafés y bebida de cacao. Creo que es en el noroeste, en el land de Renania del Norte-Westfalia, donde mi amiga, que se ve en el cuadro, vivió unos años. Habíamos decidido disfrutar de una excursión en bicicleta para explorar los pueblecitos de alrededor de la ciudad, cuando descubrimos este acogedor lugar, dejamos nuestros vehículos aparcados fuera y nos dejamos atrapar por un aroma delicioso de pastel y del diseño interior. Era verano, alrededor del año 2015.

Some mares or fillies, I am not sure, I saw in the summer 2018 in the north of Germany. One of the hottest summers I can remember. Unfortunately, while I was finishing the painting a drop of water fell on the brown horse, and as it happens, you can`t just erase or mix water with these water brushes, so the drop just extended and made it look like a kind of lump on the belly. Well, I am still learning this technique.

Unas yeguas jóvenes o potráncas, no estoy segura, que ví el verano de 2018 en el norte de Alemania, uno de los veranos más calurosos que yo recuerda. Desgraciademente, mientras estaba acabando la pintura se me cayó una gota de agua sobre el caballo marrón y como no se puede mezclar ni borrar, la gota se extendió y apareció una especie de bulto sobre la barriga. Bueno, todavía estoy aprendiendo esta técnica.

While I was on my way along the Heidschnuckenweg in the north of Germany, I went through a garden of Dahlias that greeted me with their beautiful colours and amazing shapes. It was summertime and I think I saw more flowers than people those seven days... a wonderful experience and a very beautiful hiking trail.

Mientras iba por la ruta del Heidschnuckenweg al norte de Alemania, atravesé una extensión ajardinada de dahlias que me daban la bienvenida con sus hermosos colores y formas extraordinarias. Era verano y creo que ví más flores que personas a lo largo de los siete dias ... fue una experciencia fantástica y es un sendero de los más bonitos y variados de Alemania.

Summer 2018 in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. Maybe the hottest summer on record, I stopped everywhere I saw shade and water. It was kind of sad, too, as all the usually green landscape turned yellow and brownish, just as in Spain, due to the lack of rain and the heat. I usually use my cousin's red bicycle to cruise around the beautiful land, also a red rucksack and a red water bottle. I wasn't conscioursly trying to match the colours of all three things, it's just that I like red.

Verano del 2018 en Schleswig-Holstein, Alemania. Quizá uno de los veranos más calurosos registrados. Me paré en todos los lugares que ofrecían un poco de sombra y agua. También era triste, ya que todo el paisaje normalmente verde se volvió amarillo y amarronado, como en España, debido a la falta de lluvias y al calor. Normalmente utilizo la bicicleta de mi prima para pasear por estas hermosas tierras, también una mochila roja y una botella de agua roja. No estaba conscientemente intentando que combinara el color de los tres objetos, es sólo que me gusta el rojo. :-)

The Icewoman is finished, for the moment.  After painting a man I decided to paint a woman. The originals are from a book of human anatomy, either black and white or natural colours. So this belongs to a phase I've been going trough, changing colours of bodys and things. Maybe the man on his knees should be called the Fireman, but then that means something else...

La mujer de hielo está acabada, de momento. Después de pintar a un hombre decidí pintar a una mujer. Los originales están en un libro de anatomía humana, tanto en blanco y negro como en colores naturales, así que esto pertenece a una fase mía en la que transformo los colores de cuerpos y cosas. Quizá el hombre de rodillas debería llamarse hombre de fuego. (en inglés tiene el significado de "bombero")
