On the way along the Costa Brava Coast trail  in Spain, crossing the hills that would allow some change of scenery, this young cow regarded me with elegant calm, completely unaware of the greenery sourrounding her. Or maybe she was?

A lo largo del sendero de la costa brava y cruzando las suaves montañas que permitirían un cambio de paisaje, esta joven vaca me contempló con elegante calma, completamente inconsciente del verdor alrededor suyo. ¿O quizá si lo era?

I bought these carnations this spring, I felt desperate some colour in my life. I could look out at the sea and let my eyes rest on them on the way, feeling joy of life and getting some rest for my soul, whatever that is. Now they are slowly drying, but they will surely come back to life next spring.

Compré estos claveles en primavera, necesitaba desesperadamente un poco de color en mi vida. Así podía mirar al mar y dejar que mis ojos descansaran sobre ellos de camino, sintiendo alegría de vivir y a la vez un poco de descanso para el alma, sea lo que sea eso. Ahora van secándose lentamente, pero con toda seguridad brotarán de nuevo la primavera que viene.

The river Borosa is a small tributary of the river Guadalquivir, which is born in the mountain range of Cazorla (Jaen), more precisely in the lagoon of Aguas Negras. It belongs to the national park of Sierras de Cazorla, Segura y las Villas, one of the largest protected area in Spain and the second largest in Europe. We were hiking along a path that offered us a rare view, the river filled with water! 

El río Borosa es un pequeño afluente del río Guadalquivir, que nace en la Sierra de Cazorla (Jaén), concretamente en la laguna de Aguas Negras, dentro del Parque Natural de las Sierras de Cazorla, Segura y las Villas, el mayor espacio protegido de España y el segundo de Europa. 

Haciendo senderismo por esta ruta descubrimos una imagen insólita: ¡el rio lleno de agua!

I think we will always remember this year, the year of the Covid-19 illness that spread around the world. While we had to stay at home for 6 weeks, I finished this picture, already wishing it was summer, but knowing it was going to be a different summer than usual.

Creo que siempre recordaremos este año, el año de la enfermedad Covid-19 que se extendió por todo el mundo. Durante la cuarentena de 6 semanas, acabé este dibujo, ya deseando que llegara el verano, y sabiendo a la vez que iba a ser un verano diferente a lo habitual.

Some mares or fillies, I am not sure, I saw in the summer 2018 in the north of Germany. One of the hottest summers I can remember. Unfortunately, while I was finishing the painting a drop of water fell on the brown horse, and as it happens, you can`t just erase or mix water with these water brushes, so the drop just extended and made it look like a kind of lump on the belly. Well, I am still learning this technique.

Unas yeguas jóvenes o potráncas, no estoy segura, que ví el verano de 2018 en el norte de Alemania, uno de los veranos más calurosos que yo recuerda. Desgraciademente, mientras estaba acabando la pintura se me cayó una gota de agua sobre el caballo marrón y como no se puede mezclar ni borrar, la gota se extendió y apareció una especie de bulto sobre la barriga. Bueno, todavía estoy aprendiendo esta técnica.

While I was on my way along the Heidschnuckenweg in the north of Germany, I went through a garden of Dahlias that greeted me with their beautiful colours and amazing shapes. It was summertime and I think I saw more flowers than people those seven days... a wonderful experience and a very beautiful hiking trail.

Mientras iba por la ruta del Heidschnuckenweg al norte de Alemania, atravesé una extensión ajardinada de dahlias que me daban la bienvenida con sus hermosos colores y formas extraordinarias. Era verano y creo que ví más flores que personas a lo largo de los siete dias ... fue una experciencia fantástica y es un sendero de los más bonitos y variados de Alemania.

Summer 2018 in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. Maybe the hottest summer on record, I stopped everywhere I saw shade and water. It was kind of sad, too, as all the usually green landscape turned yellow and brownish, just as in Spain, due to the lack of rain and the heat. I usually use my cousin's red bicycle to cruise around the beautiful land, also a red rucksack and a red water bottle. I wasn't conscioursly trying to match the colours of all three things, it's just that I like red.

Verano del 2018 en Schleswig-Holstein, Alemania. Quizá uno de los veranos más calurosos registrados. Me paré en todos los lugares que ofrecían un poco de sombra y agua. También era triste, ya que todo el paisaje normalmente verde se volvió amarillo y amarronado, como en España, debido a la falta de lluvias y al calor. Normalmente utilizo la bicicleta de mi prima para pasear por estas hermosas tierras, también una mochila roja y una botella de agua roja. No estaba conscientemente intentando que combinara el color de los tres objetos, es sólo que me gusta el rojo. :-)

On my short stay in Minneapolis I saw this farmers market on a street in the city. I thought it offered an interesting counterpoint to all those glass buildings sourrounding it. Also, it reminded me of the time helping on a WWOOFing project on a farm that summer...

Vi este mercado durante mi corta estancia en Minneapolis en una calle en la ciudad. Pensé que ofrecia un interesante contrapunto a todo ese edificio acristalado que lo rodea. También me recordaba al tiempo que pasé ayudando en un proyecto de WWOOFing en una granja ese verano...

August 2015, it's summer in Spain, but cloudy and with a cool wind blowing, water as cold as ice. That was Galicia. The beaches though, they are amazing, almost in their natural state, they even reminded me of Caribbean beaches at places. I managed to have a bath in that freezing, turquoise water and keep my body functioning normally afterwards. This boy and his dog, well, they happened to be at the right place at the right moment.

Agosto de 2015, es verano en España, pero está nublado y sopla un viento fresco, el agua está fría como el hielo. Eso era Galicia. Sin embargo las playas son magníficas, casi están en su estado natural y algunas me recordaban a playas caribeñas. Conseguí bañarme en ese agua turquesa helada y que mi cuerpo funcionara normalmente después del baño. Este niño y su perro, bueno, estaban en el sitio adecuado en el momento adecuado.

I was hiking, it was early in the morning and I decided to have a look at the tiny village in the Pyrenees, while I was waiting for the others in my group to get there. As I strolled around closed shops and silence gave me an eerie feeling. And then this small, yellow car appeared on a street, the people inside somehow not the ones you would expect in this sportive car... I had to fix this moment.


Estaba de excursión, era temprano y decidí echarle un vistazo a este pequeño pueblo en los Pirineos, mientras esperaba a que los demás del grupo me alcanzaran. Paseando por ahi las tiendas cerradas y el silencio me dieron una sensación inquietante. Y entonces apareció este pequeño coche amarillo en una calle, las personas en su interior no se ajustaban a lo que uno espera ver en este coche deportivo... tuve que fijar este momento.

One summer, many years ago, I decided to catch the domesticated wild of my aunt's garden in Schleswig-Holstein. It was and still is the only garden in the vecinity with no perfectly mown lawn. Sometimes you can see deer hiding in it.

Un verano, hace muchos años, decidí capturar el aire de naturaleza domesticada del jardín de mi tia en Schleswig-Holstein. Era y todavía es el único jardín en la vecindad que no tiene un jardín perfectamente cortado. A veces se pueden ver ciervos cobijándose en él.

A beautiful cliff and such amazing colours of the sea reflecting the sky. This was May, a friend of mine took the picture and when I saw it, I just couldn't resist it. It is a present for my dear cousin's wedding.

Una hermosa cala y esos colores sorprendentes del mar relfejando el cielo. Era mayo, una amiga mia tomó la foto y cuando la vi, no pude resistirme. Un regalo de boda para mi querida prima.

I just love red poppys, and here they are, so relaxing a view, I just have to look up from my bed and I can look at the horizon hanging on the wall. 

Me encantan las amapolas, y aqui están, una vista relajante. Sólo tengo que levantar la vista desde mi cama y mirar hacia el horizonte colgado de la pared.

Esta inspiración me vino cuando viajaba en coche por Alemania y miraba el cielo a través del techo panorámico del coche. No conducía yo, claro. Acababa de llover.

I got the inspiration to paint this picture while traveling in Germany and looking through the panoramic roof of the car. I wasn´t driving, of course. It had just stopped raining. 

Camino de Montserrat / On Our Way to Montserrat

De camino a Montserrat desde Mataró, en marzo del 2015. Esa noche llovió toda la noche, toda.

We were on our way to Montserrat mountain parting from Mataró. That night it rained the whole night through... and I mean the whole night.

Well, that was last year, I decided to go hiking from the place I live to the Monsterrat mountain, which is sacred and has a saw-like top. The distance is about 65 km, more or less. You shouldn't do that unless you have trained your body to walk long distances. So I trained with a bunch of people, as crazy as I am, hiking across the mountains every Sunday before the birds rose. On this particular day we started in the evening and walked all night. It wouldn't be too bad if it hadn't been for the rain. We reached Montserrat completely drenched and cold. Not an experience I would like to repeat.
